Summary of EFS CloudWatch Metrics
Here's a breakdown of the key EFS CloudWatch metrics discussed in the training, along with their significance:
Metrics
- PercentIOLimit
- Indicates how close a General Purpose EFS file system is to its I/O limit.
- High values (close to 100%) suggest considering Max I/O mode for increased I/O capacity.
- Important Note: Switching to Max I/O requires creating a new file system and migrating data.
- BurstCreditBalance
- Tracks available burst credits for General Purpose EFS file systems.
- When throughput reaches 100%, burst credits are used.
- A balance of zero means you'll need to wait for credits to replenish.

- StorageBytes
- Represents the file system's size in bytes.
- Updated every 15 minutes.
- Includes dimensions for Standard and Infrequent Access (IA) storage classes, as well as a total value.
How to Access Monitoring Metrics
- Navigate to your EFS file system in the AWS console.
- Click on the "Monitoring" tab.
- View key metrics including:
- Throughput utilization
- IOPS by type
- Throughput by type
- Percent IO limit
- Client connections
- Storage usage
Additional Notes
- Metrics can be viewed as time series or single values for real-time insights.
